“When the winds of change blow, some people build walls and others build windmills.”
Chinese Proverb

In times of chaos, how you rise above to stand for what is right and what you believe in shows courage and leadership. Over the past few years, we have witnessed an increase in anti-Asian racism and deeper divisions in our society. As such, this year our Summit’s theme is on Building Resilience and Social Cohesion.

We believe that Chinese Canadians across Canada have a role to play in building resilience and strengthening social cohesion. Our 3rd annual Aspire to Lead Chinese Canadian Leaders’ Summit will facilitate that by bringing together leaders from different sectors and communities to guide us on how to overcome adversaries and pave a path forward.

We will start the Summit by raising our awareness and understanding of our role with the Indigenous Peoples and other racialized communities such as the Japanese Canadians. Both communities have strong ties to Chinese Canadians. Now, more than ever, we need to examine how we can be an ally and activate that knowledge in our own leadership journey.

The Summit will then dive deeper into invigorating dialogues with aspiring, emerging and established Chinese Canadian leaders who will share their stories on how they overcame obstacles and became more resilient.

Our aim for this year’s in-person Summit is for participants to create meaningful connections, strengthen their leadership skills, and be inspired to take action to build a more inclusive Canada. This year’s Summit will also lay the foundation for Summit 2023, which will be the Centennial of the Chinese Exclusion Act.

As the Chinese Proverb goes, “Don’t be afraid to grow slowly, be afraid to stand still.” This is not the time for us to stand still. This is the time for collective action.
