June 23 – National Remembrance Event/Reception
- On June 23, 2023, the Honourable Senator Yuen Pau Woo, the Honourable Senator Victor Oh and Action! Chinese Canadians Together (ACCT) Foundation will be hosting a National Remembrance event in the Senate of Canada Chamber on the 100th anniversary of the enactment of the Chinese Exclusion Act in Canada.
- This event is an opportunity to recognize the longstanding relationship between Chinese Canadians and Indigenous Peoples in Canada, to enhance a sense of pride and belonging, and to take action against racism.
- This event will be livestreamed from the Senate of Canada building and community members across the nation are invited to host viewing parties to participate.
- A commemorative plaque will be unveiled as part of the ceremony with the intent to have it installed permanently in the newly renovated Centre Block of the Parliament of Canada.
- ACCT will be hosting a viewing party for the National Remembrance Event, with a reception to follow, for Summit delegates.
June 24-25 Program
The theme this year is on leading with your whole authentic self. We will bring together intergenerational Chinese Canadian leaders from across Canada to develop resources to empower current and future generations of Chinese-Canadian civic leaders.
We will start the Summit with an intercultural dialogue on what it means to bear witness to what has happened to other racialized groups and how Chinese Canadians can become allies in their own leadership journey. We will then dive deeper into leadership topics that will include:
- Chinese Canadians in Unexpected Places
- Do you know what you don’t know?
- Being comfortable in your own skin
This gathering of Chinese Canadian leaders will provide a forum to share experiences, discuss current thinking, develop insights on leadership, and spark collaborations to support lasting collective impact.
