Biography

Michael leads the Retail network and Financial Services business for Canada Post, Canada’s postal operator and largest retail distribution network. He is responsible for overseeing the overall priorities of Canada Post’s corporate and franchise retail network incubating and launching Financial Services into a new line of business.

He is a cross-functional financial services leader, having extensive experience in digital transformations, new business building and operational transformations. He has previously built new financial services businesses globally (US, Canada, UK, Germany and Latin America) and across industries (retailers, loyalty players, agricultural clients, banks). He believes that better access to financial services through public and private organizations will improve the lives of all Canadians and improve the competitiveness of Canadian small businesses.

He is a passionate leader for equity, diversity and inclusion and believes that more diverse organizations will make better decisions and be more impactful for all of Canada.

Michael was previously an Associate Partner at McKinsey & Company, where he advised senior private and public sector executives extensively on topics of digital and operational transformations. At McKinsey, he founded the Canadian chapter of Asians at McKinsey, working to support, advance and advocate for Asian colleagues. He was also previously a scientist and researcher at Harvard University and the Harvard Kennedy School, where he studied the physics of next-generation energy technologies and the economic impact of energy policies. He writes on topics ranging from financial services, to energy policy and energy technology and has published in Science, Nature and the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.

Michael holds a Ph.D. and A.M. in physics from Harvard University, and a B.A.Sc. in Engineering Science from the University of Toronto.
