Biography

Su Yen Chong is the Heritage Manager of Exhibition and Research at the Japanese Canadian Cultural Centre in Toronto. Her work encompasses curatorial research for the Moriyama Nikkei Heritage Centre, specifically the exhibitions, Maru: Immigration Stories and Women of Change: Celebrating Japanese Canadian Leaders. She also manages Sedai, an oral histories collection of Japanese Canadians. She graduated from University of Toronto with an Honours BA in Art History and from University of Victoria with a Master of Arts. Her research in the arts and culture of diasporic communities in Southeast Asia won the Queen Elizabeth Diamond Jubilee Scholar grant and the Lieutenant Governor Silver Medal Award. Before working for the JCCC, she worked at the Art Gallery of Greater Victoria to review the museum’s collection of Japanese prints, which culminated in an exhibition titled Landscapes of Edo
