Biography

Stephen Tsang has lived in Edmonton since 1979 and holds two degrees from the University of Alberta. He recently retired after 35 years as a Compliance Officer with the Government of Alberta. Dr. Ac. Stephen Tsang is a 21st-generation acupuncturist trained in Hong Kong and has practised in Edmonton for over 40 years. Stephen has been active in the Edmonton Chinese community for more than two decades. He was the former President of the Edmonton Chinese Bilingual Education Association, supporting a program that serves over 2,500 families across 14 schools. He has also contributed to Servus Credit Union’s Chinese Council, the Edmonton Chinatown Recovery Fund, and the Edmonton Community Foundation’s Chinese Cultural Legacy Fund, and has helped organize more than 50 cultural events. He currently serves as Vice-President of the Chinese Graduates Association of Alberta. As a Chinese calligraphy artist and instructor, his work has been widely exhibited in galleries, community centres, and universities, and featured in public spaces across Edmonton, including the “唐人街” (Chinatown) light-post banners and the 3D sculpture of “龍的傳人” (Descendants of the Dragon) at the Quarters LRT Station. He was a recipient of the 2023 Alberta Newcomer Recognition Award (now the Immigrant Impact Award) and the 2025 King Charles III Coronation Medal.
