Who this is for
The ACCT Public Appointments Workshop prepares Asian Canadians to seek out and pursue civic leadership opportunities in public entities and civil society.
Across Canada, agencies, boards, commissions, and crown corporations recruit community members and seek diverse representation. This workshop helps you understand where you fit and how to move forward.
Maybe you’ve never heard the term “public appointment” before. No prior board or civic experience is required.
Maybe you’re already leading—through work, volunteering, advocacy, caregiving, student life, cultural or community organizing—and want a bigger platform.
You are a public-minded individual or an expert in your field who wants to help build more inclusive institutions.
Why this matters
Asian Canadians are underrepresented in public entities such as agencies, boards, commissions, crown corporations, and civil society leadership roles. Many are well positioned and ready to serve, bringing needed diversity of experiences, perspectives, and leadership to enhance decision making.
Public appointments are one concrete way to ensure that Asian Canadian perspectives are part of the rooms where policies, programs, and priorities are shaped.

Eligible youth can apply for a participation grant of up to $150, making the workshop free. Complete all three steps to be considered.

Yes. The workshop includes board governance content and will help you think strategically about additional appointments and how to layer roles without burnout.
No one can guarantee appointments. The workshop prepares you to seek out opportunities, understand the process, and put forward strong applications.
