EVALUATION REPORT: BUILDING ANTI-RACISM CAPACITY THROUGH MENTAL HEALTH RESEARCH, RESOURCES AND TRAINING
Prepared by Paul Holley, Ph.D. on behalf of the ACT2ENDRacism Network and the Action! Chinese Canadians Together (ACCT) Foundation
The sharp rise of anti-Asian Racism during the COVID-19 pandemic and subsequent impact on the mental health of Asian Canadians necessitated a call to action from the Act2EndRacism Network, Action! Chinese Canadian Together (ACCT) Foundation and key stakeholders from the community and settlement sectors. In response to this disturbing trend, the ACCT Foundation commissioned primary research on “Anti-Asian Racism in Canada: Lived Experiences, Impact on Mental Health, and Access to Services and Support.” This research in addition to a series of community consultations with settlement organizations across Canada laid the foundation for the development and implementation of a new pilot training program intended for settlement and community workers: “Building Anti-Racism Capacity through Mental health Research, Resources and Training.” The program aims to strengthen the settlement and community sectors to address racism and discrimination-related trauma among immigrants and racialized community members.
